The Curse of the middle innings

In his last 4 starts, Mike Mussina is 4-0 with and ERA of just over 3. Through the first 4 innings of yesterday he looked as good as he's ever been. But the problem with him is that he is not overpowering anymore, and the hitters will pick up on his "tricks" after the first or second time through the batting order. Thats why he always has trouble in the 5th inning. These innings, (5th and 6th) will be his achilles heal the whole year. But us Yankee fans will take an outing like he did yesterday all the time. Sure it would be better if he could give us another inning (or maybe two), but he does not have to be the ace. Being consistent, just giving up 3 runs a start, is all we ask of him. If he continues to pitch like this for the remainder of the season, then The Yanks are in good shape. As a third starter behind Pettitte and Wang, he'll be fine. If Moose keeps up these kind of performances, then he and the rest of the Yankees will be playing in October.
