Chad Johnson Injured
Chad Johnson is set to undergo ankle surgery, but will apparently be ready for training camp. If the Bengals were interested in trading him, this will bring his value down, but may actually encourage the team to deal with him since this is just one thing that will upset the the Bengals.
Javon Walker Hospitalized
After being found unconscious in a Las Vegas street, Javon Walker was taken to the hospital due to what police spokesman Bill Cassel called "significant injuries." Apparently, he was also the victim of a robbery.

Wang out till September

Yankee pitcher Chien-Mig Wang will be out until September. He injured his foot while running the bases on Sunday, and was initial reports only had him being sidelined for 6 weeks. This is a big blow to the Yanks rotation which is already suffering from injuries to Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes. The Yanks now must look to sign a pitcher like Sidney Ponson, or Freddy Garcia, or maybe David Wells, or look inward and call up another young starter.
Yankee co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner was furious calling the National League rule that pitchers must run the bases out of date. "My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century," he said. "They need to grow up and join the 21st century." Whether or not it's a good rule, the Yanks must now deal with the consequences of inter-league play, and will just have to bounce back with this unfortunate ordeal.
Mets Fire Willie

After weeks of questions, the New York Mets have fired Willie Randolph, pitching coach Rick Peterson, and first base coach Tom Nieto. The news came in at the astonishing time of 12:15 am PDT, which is 3:15 on the east coast. Bench Coach Jerry Manuel will take over as interim coach. General Manager Omar Minaya did not answer any questions last night, but will be having a press conference at 2 pm PDT this afternoon.
Although this may have been the right move for the team, the Mets played it horribly. First of all they should not have been dangling Willie over the pit of unemployment for the last few weeks. That is not the way to deal with this situation, and the Mets should be blamed for doing so. Second, replacing Randolph with Manuel won't do very much. They both have similar managing styles, and the team's attitude probably won't change that much even with this shake up. Third, they should not have fired him at this time of night. That shows complete disrespect for the man that brought the team to within one inning of the world series.
The only way this team is going to turn around is if the Mets hire a guy like Larry Bowa or Bobby Valentine, someone who is firey and will shake the place up. And of course, Omar has to go too. He is the one that out together this team of lazy underachievers, and it's about time he gets some punishment for his failures.

Mustache Mania

Ever since growing that mustache, Giambi has been on a tear! He's been hitting well over .300 with 9 home runs. The guy has redeemed himself and solidified himself as the Yankees first basemen. Without the shift, the guy would probably be hitting .300 for the season. He's still one of the best hitters in the league, and with his improved defense is the best first basemen on the Yankees. He may be looking at a contract extension, although the 22 million dollar option for next year is not likely to be picked up by the Yanks. But the two sides will hopefully work something out, and Gimabi may be starting at first the team come 2009.
But Giambi isn't the only one with "the stache". Johnny Damon has been hitting over .400 this month, and is hitting in the mid .300s since growing his mustache.
Maybe there's something about this facial hair, and if there is then the rest of the team ought to start doing the same.
