Wang out till September

Yankee pitcher Chien-Mig Wang will be out until September. He injured his foot while running the bases on Sunday, and was initial reports only had him being sidelined for 6 weeks. This is a big blow to the Yanks rotation which is already suffering from injuries to Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes. The Yanks now must look to sign a pitcher like Sidney Ponson, or Freddy Garcia, or maybe David Wells, or look inward and call up another young starter.
Yankee co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner was furious calling the National League rule that pitchers must run the bases out of date. "My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century," he said. "They need to grow up and join the 21st century." Whether or not it's a good rule, the Yanks must now deal with the consequences of inter-league play, and will just have to bounce back with this unfortunate ordeal.
