Hughes to the DL

I just heard on the YES broadcast that Phill Hughes is heading to the DL. Hopefully this is what has been causing him to pitch so poorly lately, especially last night night. This will provide an opportunity for probably Darrel Rasner to take his shot at making the rotation, but Igawa may take over instead. Whoever takes over will hopefully be good enough to keep the Yankees in the race for the next few weeks, and maybe even be good enough so the Yanks feel they have some insurance in the pitching staff. And when Hughes gets back, he better be as good as we all hoped, because otherwise there will be no excuses.

New York Rangers, they need a miracle

It's happened twice before in hockey, and once in baseball; a comeback from 3 games down in the playoffs. The New York Rangers are in the hole, and need to play better than they have played all year to comeback and win this series. But it doesn't look likely. Henrik Lundqvist gave up 5 goals in only 17 shots last night, and has given up 12 goals in the three games so far. He is the reason the Rangers are down in this series. In game 1, the Rangers had a 3-0 lead, but the goalie blew it. Game 2 was a nice win for the Penguins, but last night was another stinker for Henrik. Twice he gave up 2 goals in a short amount of time after the Rangers came back to tie it. If Lundqvist plays shutout hockey for the remainder of this series then they have got a shot, but that probably won't happen. But you never know. The sports gods might have a trick up their sleep.

Obama makes the Wright Choice

Barack Obama is a unique candidate, and it's not just because he's black. Obama is a genuine guy, he does not seem to be judgemental, and he seems to really want to help the country. I don't think there has been this kind of candidate since Robert F. Kennedy. But after hearing about Jeremiah Wright I became greatly disenchanted with Barack. Finally, Barack did what needed to be done, and cut off ties with the pastor, and made me believe in him again. If you watched his press conference, it was easy to tell that he was truly hurt by what Wright said, and he was not doing it just because it would help in his political career. It was not about the upcoming primaries, Obama disowned the pastor because Barack no longer agrees with him. To him, its not about the politics, its about ideals and morals, and the two of them clearly no longer agreed. I believe in Obama again because he cares, he's not a machine, and this decision clearly took a toll on him. But he is standing up for what he believes in, and I hope people understand that and vote for him because of it.

State of the Yankees (April)

Pitching- Going into the season, there were three major questions about the pitching staff:
  1. Is Wang good enough to be the ace?
  2. Can Kennedy and Hughes take the next step and become major league pitchers?
  3. Can Mussina and Pettitte stay healthy and be the pitchers they used to be?
So far Wang has proven he can be an ace, but the other 2 questions still remain. Kennedy and Hughes have been horrible, and have not been close to the pitchers the Yankees needed. Pettitte has been fine and just like he used to be, and after these last two starts Mussina could be the guy the Yankees hoped they resigned. In order for the Yankees to make the playoffs, they need Hughes and Kennedy to step it up. For them to win in the playoffs, they either need to make a trade, or hope everything goes right.

Hitting- With one of the best lineups in baseball, going into the season, it was hard to imagine that anyone could be worried about the Yankee hitting. But with Posada on the disabled list, and A-rod putting up non-A-rod- numbers, there is reason to worry. Giambi and Cano are both hitting under .200 and Jeter hasn't hit a home run.  However, Abreu is playing much better than last year, and Melki is hitting like a superstar, and Matsui is like he was in Japan. If everybody can start playing well at the same time, then there will be no reason to fear.
Even with these questions, the Yankees are playing better in this April than they have in past ones. I don't think there is any reason to worry as the first month of the season comes to a close. The Bronx Bombers are right in the thick of the division race, and will continue to be right there through the whole season.

2008 Draft-Jets

This is my first post!
Vernon Gohlston-The Jets needed a defensive player, but I dont know if Vernon Gholston was the right choice. Physicaly he is a monster, but his football skills and football IQ might not be NFL ready. He has a lot of potential, but he's going to have to work hard to reach those hieghts. It's going to be up to Mangini and the coaching staff to mold him into the player that he could be.
Dustin Keller-Keller was the best TightEnd in the draft, and the Jets made the right choice. Bubba Franks is aging, and I wouldnt trust him to be the player he was a few years ago with the Packers. Chris Baker is a good player, but has contract issues and may not be playing very much this year for the Jets. The Jets needed a TE, and Keller was the guy to take. He'll be the guy to make Pennington look like he was a few years ago, and if Clemens is the starter then he'll be the perfect safety net for him.
Dwight Lowery-I like this pick. The Jets needed a guy to play opposite Reves, and this could be the guy one day. Right now he's not going to be a starter, but he has the potential to be a solid conerback and a reliable player for the team.
Erik Ainge-This was stupid. Has Mangini given up on Clemens already? This was a waste of a pick, especialy since there are other wholes to fill on the team.

Overall, the Jets did a good job, and filled the two big holes they had at D-Line and TE. The only thing I would've liked to see was taking a runningback. When they traded up to get Keller, I actualy thought they were going for Ray Rice. He would have been perfect for the Jets, and have been a fan-favorite. Neverthelss, I'm excited for the upcoming season, and if Gholston maximises his potential, he's going to be really fun to watch
