Maddux Traded to the Yanks

Well that isn't exactly what happened, and no Maddux won't be pitching for the Yankees anytime soon. But if anyone has been watching Mike Mussina pitch lately it has got to remind you of Greg Maddux. Every pitchers time must come to an end, but Maddux has been able to reinvent himself by painting corners, mixing up pitches, and using the moving fastball more and more. Essentially outsmarting the hitter. Mike Mussina now has followed in his footsteps. For the last 2 years, mostly last year, we've seen Mussina become at best an average pitcher and certainly not one to be counted on. But now he is back and has pitched 5 great starts including tonight. With the team playing as poorly as it has, a stopper was needed. But who though that it would be "Moose". Following Wang, he's been the best pitcher on the team. Mussina is really making a case for himself to be relied upon for the rest of the season, and maybe for years to come. If he can still get guys out throwing a 69 MPH change-up, well then he's going to be able to get guys for a long time. Mussina has always been about outsmarting the hitter, but he's taken it to a new level because of his diminished pitching ability. But he's found ways to get guys out and has been doing it just as brilliantly as he has in the past. If he keeps it up then then the Yanks will be able to hang around in the playoff race until A-Rod and Posada can come back, and the pitching can get better. Good Job Moose!
